| Martin and Frances had a very pretty farm, well kept flower
beds and a well manicured lawn. They took great pride in their farm, in
Helena, Mi. John moved from Chicago to Michigan and eventually bought a forty acre farm next to his sister Frances and her husband Martin Dropiewski. He died and was buried there. Two years later his body was exhumed for reburial in Chicago. The undertaker asked the family if anyone wished to see him. Some did. His face was cleaned of mud with a stick and was in perfect condition, showing no signs of decay. Jan Guza had a life lease on his forty acres, and deeded it to Leon on the condition he would live there for the rest of his life. Reportedly Leon, Frances and Jan found the arrangement unsatisfactory. Jan moved out of the farmhouse and went to live with his youngest daughter Frances and her husband Martin Dropiewski, until his death April 9,1898. He is buried in St. Mary's cemetery Parisville Mi. Although he was often called John, his headstone reads 'Jan Guza'. John and Catherine (Guza) Kubacki raised their family in Parisville as did Martin and Frances (Guaz) Dropiewski. |
