Stories About Your Dad and Your Grandfather - Dolores ( Ochylski ) Waurzyniak |
|
| Your Dad and your Mom came up to Houghton Lake to spend a
weekend with our family. The cottage was a pretty good size and there was
room for all... We had a good time all afternoon and at night sleeping arrangements
were all planned. I can't remember if your parents were married as yet,
but I'm sure that was all taken into consideration. Every one was very tired
and we all hit the sack....In the morning....NO BILL!!! Where in the world
had he disappeared too??? A walk on the beach??? a early morning swim???
As we all awakened, some one went out side to take a look around. There
was Bill, sound ASLEEP IN THE CAR!!! What we didn't know and he didn't tell
us is that he sounded like a buzz-saw when he was asleep. We wouldn't have
heard him even if he did!!!! But he was afraid his snoring would keep us
awake......so he curled up with a blanket in the car!!! Now that is consideration!!!! When your dad needed a volunteer for some dental work for his State Boards, I was it! Bill had to put a GOLD FILLING in my tooth. Every thing went smoothly and I had a gleaming tooth!!! The examiners would have supplied a VOLUNTEER, if he didn't have one....This would have been a PRISONER from the county JAIL!! |
I'm pretty sure about this. Bill had to have BREAD with every
meal, (maybe just dinner) even though there was plenty of other food! His
meal was not complete without bread. Ask your mom to verify. When Bill came home from service a habit came home with him! I guess water had to be conserved so when the men showered they first WET DOWN, turned OFF the water, LATHERED UP and WASHED, then turned on the water and RINSED OFF. He kept this habit for ... a LONG TIME? ... for EVER? Ask your mom! You kids probably remember but this is for YOUR children. Now a little tale about your Grandfather, known to all as Captain George. It seems when he was young, he went hunting with (I'm pretty sure) his brother Ed and his brother-in-law Ed Kubacki. They had a successful hunt and had a bunch of pheasants in the back seat of the car.. .Okay.. .they stopped for gas and some how they got ARRESTED. Oh yes, it made the front page of the Port Huron Herald!! I don't know the circumstances of the event... Could it be?? too many birds? I'm sure they had a license... .maybe they started a day early???? My mom, your grandmother Martha, had a tizzy!!! But they didn't talk about stuff like that in front of us kids, so I never found out the details!! |

| Oh, I almost forgot the most important part of the story.
Their BIRDS, GUNS and CAR were all CONFISCATED!!! All was not lost!!! Good old grand dad posted bail for every one, and the car and every thing was returned so they could go home... The bail was in the neighborhood of $100 to $150 dollars. Not much today but back then it was a mint! |
There is a thought that keeps running through my mind. I think your dad Bill took care of your grandfathers teeth AT HOME! Your grand father had good teeth and kept every tooth in his head! I think he may have had a filling or two!!! This a blessing I wish on you and your children! |
