| Husband Hunting Every Problem Has a Solution After the unexpected death of her husband Felix Gajewski in 1915, Mary (Wawrzyniak) Gajewski was left with four young children. Philip born in 1910, Catherine bom in 1911, Virginia bom in 1913 and Felix an infant born in 1915, the same year of his fathers death. Four children bom in five years was not going to be an easy task to raise alone. She needed help and a husband. Worried about the little families future, Mary went to her father Michael and asked what she should do. Michael must have been a practical man, because his response was to go the logging camp and ask if there were a unmarried, suitable, man for his daughter. The camp boss made the recommendation that Mike Dotski was a hard worker and a good man. We don't know exactly how the introductions were arranged but Mike and Mary were married in 1916. In 1917 their first child Mary was bom, then John in 1919, followed by Stella in 1921, George in 1924, Josephine in 1926, and finally Edward in 1934. |
When Mike and Mary were first married the census records show his job as a "Wet Mechanic" This must have been some thing connected with the lumber camp and mill. They lived with Mary's family and she continued to help raise her brothers and sisters. In a few years both Grandfather Michael and Mike and Mary bought farms of their own. | |
